Ethics and Legal Issues in Energy Therapies
Energy therapies are at the leading edge of treatments to reduce human suffering
and promote peak functioning. Because of this innovative nature, energy therapists
face ethical, legal, and regulatory challenges that include and go beyond
the concerns of more traditional practitioners of the healing arts. Energy
therapies are multidisciplinary, comprised of many different types of helping
professionals, both licensed and non-licensed. Each group has specific requirements
and concerns in conducting their practices. As energy therapies have been
introduced and integrated into the health care field, schools and other training
organizations have developed programs to teach and train individuals in specific
energy modalities: many of them offering certification.
Practitioners: Midge provides
risk management tools and training to assist practitioners of energy therapies
in reducing their exposure to ethical, regulatory, and legal vulnerabilities
in their practices. She advises her clients on how to have a legally sound
and ethical practice.
Specifically Midge can provide the following
services:
• A risk management audit of a practitioner’s
practice.
• A review of all marketing materials, including websites
• Drafting agreements, disclaimers, releases, informed consent, and
other practice management forms.
• Advice on legal, ethical, and regulatory issues impacting a practitioner’s
practice.
Organizations: Midge has
worked with a number of organizations that offer classes and certification
programs in specific energy modalities. She provides an online course on ethics
and legal issues in energy therapies as a part of the core curriculum for
certification programs, an essential risk management tool for any organizations
offering certification. Specifically Midge can provide the following services:
• Assistance with creating a legal
and business structure for organizations offering classes and certification
programs.
• Advice on how to protect intellectual property, including trademarks
and copyrights
• Development of standards of practice, disciplinary processes, and
codes of ethics

• Providing an ethics and legal module as part of the core curriculum
for certification programs
